Sarah "Frankie" Frank

Frankie is a faculty lecturer in the Department of Sociology and the Center for Law, Society, & Justice. She holds a BA from Loyola University Chicago (2014), and both her MS (2018) and PhD (2024) from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in Sociology, with a doctoral minor in Feminist Research Methods. With interests in gender, sexuality, criminology, menstruation, and both qualitative and mixed methods research, she has designed and developed a set of courses in CLSJ concentrated on sex and gender issues in the law. During her doctoral candidacy, Frankie started a menstruation data lab for undergraduate research; in her research lab, Frankie and her research assistants work on project related to menstruation and society, chiefly through legislation, litigation, courts, and forensics.
Frankie values teaching above all else, earning her the 2023 Teaching Innovation Award in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Consortium for Undergraduate Law & Justice Programs, and from UW Madison, Frankie has been awarded the Early Excellence Teaching Award (2017), the Continuity of Instruction Award (2020-2021), and the Provost’s Office Award for Mentoring Undergraduates in Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activities (2021). She has also been a Writing Center Fellow and CRLA Certified Tutor at UW Madison; Frankie has also been awarded grants and recognition from Alpha Kappa Delta Sociology Honors Society, UW Madison’s Holtz Center for Science & Technology, and the Sociologists for Women & Society.
